Media Player Classic crashed with .wmv

Posted by Admin On January - 31 - 2009

From the older post, I have explained some issues of Media Player Classic that was included within K-Lite Mega Codec Pack any version. A problem that I couldn’t solved at that moment was “computer restart suddenly when I move the playback slider with a .wmv file”. The player seems weird too.

Unfortunately, K-Lite didn’t change the default configuration for ffdshow video decoder, so you must change it manually. I feel disappointed. Now then, I am going to tell you how to fix this problem. Just for info, I am using K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.4.5. I got this problem from version 4.1.3 and it’s very disappointing that K-Lite/ Media Player Classic do not realize that plain problem.

  1. The first step, open ffdshow video decoder.

    ffdshow video decoder

    ffdshow video decoder

  2. Change the decoder for WMV1,WMV2,WMV3 to libavcodec. I do not recommend wmv9 because it is incomplete I think. There are some .wmv files that do not play correctly with wmv9, just a green screen and voices.

    libavcodec wmv

    libavcodec wmv

  3. Click OK and you can freely slide the slider without any worries that your computer can restart suddenly.

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and Media Player Classic issues

Posted by Admin On December - 21 - 2008

Yeah, recent version of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack that I’ve downloaded and earlier version from 4.1.3 have got my head feel dizzy. Now I used version 4.3.4 and it’s even worse.

from version 4.1.3 and 4.2.5, I had problems with .vob and .wmv extension. When I play some video with .wmv extension, Media Player Classic play it weirdos. I don’t blame K-Lite or MPC for this, but please fix it, do ya? I don’t have any authority to scold you, I know it’s very hard to make it. And for .vob videos, from 4.2.5 and 4.3.4, I don’t know why in ffdshow video decoder configuration, the decoder for Other MPEG2 is disabled. So, when I play .vob, the motion and video itself is very weird, I think that was my VGA at first time, but at least I can fix it to normal (maybe). I just change from disabled to libmpeg2 and I can watch .vob videos normally, again, and at last.

So, I think I have to download to newer version, 4.3.4 at that moment. Well, anything is normal except .vob videos problem. Unfortunately, it happens again, today, and even worse. When I play “a .wmv videos”, Media Player Classic show it weirdy….. just wait a minute…. I just move the slider ahead…..and upsss… my computer restart automatically. Well, it’s worse, isn’t it?

I don’t know if newer version is better or not, but I have some advices to you reader, if your codec pack is working normally, just stay at it and do not install a newer version until you get problems with that version, okay? And if you insist to get a newer version, it’s good choice, because you can learn and try something new with that buggy version.

I just hope that new version of K-Lite and Media Player Classic can turn out to be the best codec pack and player with light memory usage of course.
