Tips to prevent autorun virus infection

Posted by Admin On January - 9 - 2009

Lately, I was told by my friend how to do that, so when our external drive like flashdisk or external HD is plugged into USB or E-sata ports with infected computer, that virus can’t duplicate itself into external drives.

  1. Make a new folder into your external drive0
  2. Name it with autorun.inf11

Now, let’s see if the virus can infect your external drive or not. So, my friend do an experiment about that. He now make new text document, and make sure first that you “uncheck hide extensions for know file typesin folder option -> view.

2

Then, rename it with autorun.inf and try to click enter. This is going to happen if you try to click enter/ make it. So, I can make conclusion like this, if a virus try to infect your external drive/ USB flashdisk, it will not happen, because there is another file that already used that name, a file folder with autorun.inf name.

3

Want to try? Except the virus can generate another file name than autorun.inf, but I think no virus maker never think like that, or am I wrong?

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and Media Player Classic issues

Posted by Admin On December - 21 - 2008

Yeah, recent version of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack that I’ve downloaded and earlier version from 4.1.3 have got my head feel dizzy. Now I used version 4.3.4 and it’s even worse.

from version 4.1.3 and 4.2.5, I had problems with .vob and .wmv extension. When I play some video with .wmv extension, Media Player Classic play it weirdos. I don’t blame K-Lite or MPC for this, but please fix it, do ya? I don’t have any authority to scold you, I know it’s very hard to make it. And for .vob videos, from 4.2.5 and 4.3.4, I don’t know why in ffdshow video decoder configuration, the decoder for Other MPEG2 is disabled. So, when I play .vob, the motion and video itself is very weird, I think that was my VGA at first time, but at least I can fix it to normal (maybe). I just change from disabled to libmpeg2 and I can watch .vob videos normally, again, and at last.

So, I think I have to download to newer version, 4.3.4 at that moment. Well, anything is normal except .vob videos problem. Unfortunately, it happens again, today, and even worse. When I play “a .wmv videos”, Media Player Classic show it weirdy….. just wait a minute…. I just move the slider ahead…..and upsss… my computer restart automatically. Well, it’s worse, isn’t it?

I don’t know if newer version is better or not, but I have some advices to you reader, if your codec pack is working normally, just stay at it and do not install a newer version until you get problems with that version, okay? And if you insist to get a newer version, it’s good choice, because you can learn and try something new with that buggy version.

I just hope that new version of K-Lite and Media Player Classic can turn out to be the best codec pack and player with light memory usage of course.

Avira AntiVir Personal or AVG Free 8.0 - the best or the worst?

Posted by Admin On November - 16 - 2008

I think, Avira is the best free antivirus program for this year. Why not AVG? Yeah, AVG is good, more protection like e-mail, spyware, and search guard, but now I’m talking about antivirus, Avira Personal give more protection to viruses, trojans, worms, but lack about spyware and other threat (sob). Avira give quicker complete scan and lighter memory usage, below 10K, AVG 8.0 Free eats about 30~50K, this is also my reason to change my mind to Avira.

Avira is easy to use. The realtime guard is good, the reaction of the guard is fast and will show you a window that give you an information and choices, what do you want to that file, quarantine it, deny it, and many more.

Unfortunately, this antivirus have some…. yeah, for me, many false detection. I have about 14 keygen/crack program and 2 of them are detected as trojans, and of course, thanks to the fast realtime guard, when it comes to false detection, I choose ignore because I know it’s a fine & worked crack, but because “it’s” fast realtime guard, the window pop-up again, before I can click the crack. I don’t know how to solve this fast detection, I just have to click faster than the realtime guard detect it and it’s mean 5 times to choose ignore and 1 click to execute the crack, total 6 clicks to execute the fine crack. In complete scan progress, it always wait the confirmation from user when it detect threat and pause the scan, so you can’t leave the computer for a long time, because if it detect a threat, it will pause the scan and wait for your confirmation, the scan can be damn long if you leave your computer for a long time, this is where AVG is better at, you can wait or leave your computer for a long time and when it finished, you can see the detailed information.

So, my conclusion is….

If you want an antivirus with complete protection and free, choose AVG. If you want a light, fast, free and good detection antivirus program, I recomend you Avira Personal Edition Classic. I just like a light, fast, and free antivirus, so I choose Avira AntiVir Personal, but if AVG is lighter, I will choose it. LOL
