Boost Your Internet Connection Speed

Posted by Admin On February - 25 - 2009

This is very classic and simple method that can boost your internet connection speed. For example, Windows will default take your 20% of your bandwidth to do the automatic update. Whether you turn it off or not, it still take your 20% bandwidth. This can decrease your internet speed of course, but may increase your security. I believe, although your computer do update, but if your brain still dumb, it’s meaningless to do update. So, you can turn it off (You must at least run on XP Professional or Server 2003 to do it). How to do it:

  1. Click Start and click Run
  2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK
  3. Go to Administrative Templates -> Network -> QoS Packet Scheduler
  4. Double-click Limit reservable bandwidth -> Setting tab
  5. Enable it and set bandwidth limit to 0 and click OK.

Another way to boost your internet speed, don’t do too many simultaneously download. For Bit Torrent user, a torrent will eat your bandwidth although it’s download speed is 0 KB/s in downloading status. Just pause it if the download speed is low and wait for another moment where the Seeds and Peers are in frenzy mode.

Use third party download accelerator/ manager. This can help you to get optimal speed of your connection. Internet Download Manager is very good download manager, but it’s not free, it’s shareware. A quite good and free download manager is Free Download Manager.

After you do like the above, you can check your connection speed. A web like speedtest.net can help you to know how much your connection speed is.

If these tips and tricks still don’t increase your connection speed, please check these fundamental things.

  1. Are you using 56K Modem?
  2. What speed your connection is?
  3. Is the speed you get is the same as your provider promised at the promo so you use their product till now?
  4. How much you’ve spent your money for your modem?
  5. Change to another provider.

Media Player Classic crashed with .wmv

Posted by Admin On January - 31 - 2009

From the older post, I have explained some issues of Media Player Classic that was included within K-Lite Mega Codec Pack any version. A problem that I couldn’t solved at that moment was “computer restart suddenly when I move the playback slider with a .wmv file”. The player seems weird too.

Unfortunately, K-Lite didn’t change the default configuration for ffdshow video decoder, so you must change it manually. I feel disappointed. Now then, I am going to tell you how to fix this problem. Just for info, I am using K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.4.5. I got this problem from version 4.1.3 and it’s very disappointing that K-Lite/ Media Player Classic do not realize that plain problem.

  1. The first step, open ffdshow video decoder.

    ffdshow video decoder

    ffdshow video decoder

  2. Change the decoder for WMV1,WMV2,WMV3 to libavcodec. I do not recommend wmv9 because it is incomplete I think. There are some .wmv files that do not play correctly with wmv9, just a green screen and voices.

    libavcodec wmv

    libavcodec wmv

  3. Click OK and you can freely slide the slider without any worries that your computer can restart suddenly.

How to Make Own Send To Shortcut

Posted by Admin On January - 14 - 2009

Well, when we do right-click over a file, we can use Send To option to make it easier to transfer or copy a file. We can copy it to external drive, My Documents, desktop as a shortcut, or compressed folder, but we want another location that we use it frequently, like a favorite folder or another folders beside My Documents. I will show you how to do that.

  1. First step is make sure you unhide all files.

    unhide

    Unhide all files

  2. Go to C:Documents and SettingsXP. Remember, “C” is where is my Documents and Settings location and “XP” is my username, if you have another location and username, then open Documents and Settings folder in your computer and click your username folder. After that, you will see Send To folder, open it.

    sendto

    Send to

  3. Now, in this place, you can make a shortcut of your favorite folder or another folders that you feel necessary. For example, I make a shortcut of My mp3s folder, then after you make your shortcut, you can cut it and paste it in Send To folder.

    ownshortcut

    Place your shortcut here

  4. It’s done. You can hide your porn videos and forbidden files now :D. Like the picture below, now you can copy a file directly to your favorite folder, such a mp3 file or whatever you like.

    doneSendToShortcut

    Send to your shortcut

It’s simple, isn’t it? Make it easier to transfer files and less time to do instead of the normal one =).
